About DNApain and Medcheck
PainID works in collaboration with DNAlife to offer our genetic testing. DNApain is a genetic test that aims to improve the management of chronic pain by analyzing specific genes involved in biological pathways known to impact chronic pain. By identifying key genetic factors contributing to chronic pain, the test provides insights into personalized interventions that may help alleviate symptoms. These interventions typically focus on personalized diet, supplements, exercise, and lifestyle modifications.
The test involves a pin prick blood spot sample which is used to examine genes associated with pain perception, inflammation, neurotransmitter regulation, and other relevant biological processes. By analyzing variations or mutations in these genes, we get insights that are specific to an individual to help them in managing pain with the added positive effects on overall health and wellbeing. The gene SNPs (specific nuclear polymorphisms) that have been chosen are all able to be significantly modified by diet, lifestyle and micronutrients resulting in better health expression and consequently improved pain management.
Medcheck gives you and your doctor insights into how you respond to different medications and the likelihood of side effects and treatment failure. Medcheck looks at how a patient metabolizes, transports and binds specific drugs, which in turn allows physicians to prescribe medications that are more likely to be effective while minimizing side effects.
The results of this test can be brought to your family physician to review the full scope of recommendations. The PainID team does not provide medication recommendations or provide medical advice.
It is important to remember that Medcheck does not report on all medication, but rather only medication for which there is sufficient scientific evidence linking the metabolism of the medication to a genetic variant.
Who should consider genetic testing for pain?
PainID can be beneficial for any individual with, or at risk of, chronic pain that is not responding appropriately or adequately to standard medical, physical or alternative health care. These individuals often seek personalized and holistic approaches to pain management but are often frustrated by the lack of response. The insights provided by PainID can contribute to developing a more targeted and effective treatment or pain management plan.
Chronic pain is often associated with comorbid conditions; particularly mental health concerns such as anxiety or depression. By addressing the genetic factors influencing pain perception and related pathways, PainID can provide personalized recommendations that may help alleviate not only the physical symptoms but also the associated mental health challenges. This comprehensive approach considers the interconnectedness of these conditions and aims to improve overall well-being.
“You can’t go through life allowing pain to dictate how you behave.”
